ChiRunning for Women

Nourish the Best of Yourself with Every Run

You deserve a running program that considers your needs. ChiRunning helps you cultivate your unique strengths and supports what is most challenging for women. Based on the premise of Intelligent Movement, you’ll practice finesse over force, skill over brute strength, relaxation rather than over-exertion.

Women’s Bodies, Women’s Running

Since your body is different than a man’s, it’s good to know there are running tips and techniques that serve a woman’s body specifically. For instance, women happen to be ideally suited to run longer distances and a bit more challenged than men to run shorter distances at a very fast pace.

If your fitness goals include maintaining good overall health, managing your weight, reducing stress, or getting a personal best at an event, you can learn how to run in a way that is best suited for you and your body.

The Yin and the Yang of ChiRunning

Yin is considered the feminine principle and Yang the masculine. In the west, most of us are what an acupuncturist would call Yin deficient. We go, go, go with too little rest and recuperation.

In ChiRunning we emphasize Yin energy as the foundation of all movement: receptivity, stability, core strength, flexibility, responsiveness to the moment.

These Yin qualities make running safer, easier and much more enjoyable. Once the Yin foundation is established, adding some Yang output comes naturally and doesn’t injure or deplete your body.

Women Run the World

Women are completing running events in greater numbers than men. And, unfortunately, more women are getting injured too. It doesn’t have to be that way.

Considering women weren’t officially permitted to run the Boston Marathon until 1972, it is amazing what we’ve accomplished.

If you’d like to run your first 5K or get a personal best at a Half Marathon, the most important thing is not to get injured. With that goal firmly established, all your other intentions can flourish.

I can’t express in words how grateful I am for the gift of ChiRunning. Over the last couple of years, I have come to see ChiRunning as more than a technique for running better or for injury prevention. ChiRunning is a way of thinking and being that has a tremendous impact way beyond the time I spend running. I am much more in tune with my body and I have come to recognize the strength of the inner energy within me.
