Total Conditioning, the Chi Way
Whether you’re focusing on the 5K, 10K, half marathon or want to complete the full marathon, it is an endeavor of mental endurance and physical conditioning. But let’s be clear: forced physical effort does not get you to the finish line. Deep, healthy conditioning of the mind and body does. If you’d like to run multiple distance events in a season, it is important to focus on conditioning, developed from training regularly and mindfully. We’ve set a new bar for conditioning that comes from keeping your mind focused and your body getting in great shape through the ChiRunning Training Triad: Technique training, Distance training and Race-specific training.
Conditioning is all about toning your muscles and strengthening structurally weak areas in your body. When you run correctly you naturally strengthen the muscles that provide support while relaxing muscles no longer needed for propulsion. The ChiRunning technique has built-in strengthening which significantly reduces the need to cross train. We’ll show you how to upgrade your conditioning naturally and safely with incredible results. Enduring success comes out of running correctly, not out of pressure to perform better.
Building a Solid Base
We don't consider the Chi training triad as a three-sided figure with equal emphasis on each of the three aspects. It's more like a pyramid with a solid base grounded in good running technique. We call it the Technique Phase, and it forms the ideal foundation that will pay off in more ways than you can imagine.

Conditioning Your Mind and Body
The second foundational layer of training is the Conditioning Phase, where you take all of that good technique and add distance and variety to your weekly workouts.
The focus in the Conditioning Phase is on training your mind and your body to work together as a team to create optimal results, regardless of where you set your goals.
At the peak of the pyramid is the Race-specific Phase of your training, where you learn to specifically apply the work of the first two stages to the event you're training for.
Imagine the confidence that comes from rehearsing your race before you even step up to the start line. You’ll be optimally prepared to handle all of the challenges could possibly be thrown at you on race day.
It’s the best of all worlds.
The ChiRunning Formula for Success
When most people use the words running and performance in the same sentence, images of speed and podium finishes come up. We think that’s a very limited use of the word, and we’re here to set the record straight and give “performance” some room to breathe.
Conditioning is all about toning your muscles and strengthening structurally weak areas in your body. When you run correctly you naturally strengthen the muscles that provide support while relaxing muscles no longer needed for propulsion.
ChiRunning is based in a centuries-old principle from T’ai Chi: shift your workload to the core muscles. This allows your leg muscles to do less, and the lower leg muscles to do almost nothing.
