About Danny Dreyer

Founder & President

Danny Dreyer is the co-founder of ChiRunning and ChiWalking, revolutionary forms of moving that blend the subtle inner focuses of T’ai Chi with running and walking. His work is based on his study of T’ai Chi with internationally renowned Grandmaster George Xu, and his 45 years of experience, running, racing ultra marathons and coaching people in “intelligent movement.” He has taught thousands of people the ChiRunning and ChiWalking techniques with profound results.

Danny has committed the past 20+ years to empowering his students to live pro-active lives. His goal is to bring pain-free, enjoyable fitness to anyone and everyone, no matter your size, fitness level, or age.

1. Move as a Unit
Alignment is KEY! Not only in running– but to everything in life! Learn how to align your body and move as one cohesive unit.

2. Move From Your Center
Give your legs a break! Learn how to lead with your center and allow gravity to do most of the work.

3. Don’t Use Your Legs
Here is where we depart from conventional running. Learn how to not use your legs for propulsion.

4. Stabilize and Relax Your Shoulders
Learn how to stabilize your shoulders to relax and lengthen your stride.

5. Arm Swing
Arm swing is rarely discussed when it comes to running, but we’ve realized it’s a critical piece of the puzzle. Learn how to use your arms for a graceful stride.

6. Stay Light on Your Feet 
Have you ever head of the phrase, “Running yourself into the ground?” When you learn to run softly and lower your impact with each step, you’ll feel like you’re floating along the ground!

7. The World’s Largest Treadmill
Learn to “work with the ground” beneath you– almost as if, the earth is a giant treadmill moving along underneath your feet.

8. Don’t Forget to Breath
Good breathing habits are crucial to efficient running. Learn to sync your breath with your cadence using rhythmic breathing to make your running significantly easier!

1. Get Aligned
Proper alignment of your posture is one of the most important components of your walking practice. Learn proper structural alignment to support your body weight well to reduce pain and allow chi to flow naturally and freely.

2. Engage Your Core
Core engagement is your key to balance and relaxation! Learn to strengthen and engage your core while relaxing everything else.

3. Upper Body Forward
Save your hips and knees from pain and injury! Learn to lead with your upper body while allowing your legs to swing out the back.

4. Lower Body Fluidity
Give your hips and legs a break! Learn to initiate all movement from your centerline and relax everything else.

5. Upper Body Focuses & Breathing
Cadence, arm swing, and breathing are important to making your walking more efficient and enjoyable. Learn to use arm swing, cadence and breathing to balance the motion of your hips and legs.

6. Putting it All Together
Your body moves more efficiently when all parts are unified and balanced in their movement. Learn to combine all the upper body focuses with all the lower body focuses for truly fluid walking.

7. New Terrain
Learn how to walk on various terrains: hills of varying steepness, new environments, hiking, off-road walking, and more!

8. Upward Spiral of Chi
You’ll discover will help keep the chi flowing in your life– during and beyond your workouts. Learn to integrate the inner focuses of ChiWalking into your everyday life.
