Running has been one of my passions for over 30 years! Running gives me an outlet to release my stress and get recharged. When I run, I reconnect with myself, clear my mind, refocus, and get centered within myself.
The sights, sounds, and smells I enjoy while running in nature are so relaxing and therapeutic! Running is my escape from the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced urban society. I love being able to run and hear the birds singing or the sound of a flowing stream. What a wonderful experience it is to run through a meadow seeing and smelling beautiful wildflowers. Once on a run, I saw a great horned owl swoop down a few feet ahead of me. Now that was an awesome sight to behold!
I have also experienced so many physical benefits as a result of running and walking as well. Being able to run has helped me keep my cholesterol down, keep depression away, keep my weight in check, and keep my heart in good shape. Running and walking are also great weight bearing exercises to keep our bones strong to help prevent osteoporosis.
I want to be able to keep running and walking my whole life long. Yes, I truly believe this is possible – for me and you! How is this possible you may ask? There are so many people I know who say they used to run but now their knees can’t take it. Or they have foot, ankle, lower back, or hip problems. They say their injuries are because of running.
Well, I really like what Danny Dreyer said, “It’s not running that hurts your body. It’s the way you run that hurts your body.” Danny and his wife, Katherine, are the founders of ChiRunning and ChiWalking.
ChiRunning and ChiWalking focuses on energy efficiency and injury prevention! Because of ChiRunning and ChiWalking, I am learning to move my body in new ways that are more efficient. I have discovered for myself that as I relax my body and run and walk with proper alignment, I am helping my body to prevent getting injured.
Another passion of mine is teaching and helping people! With ChiRunning and ChiWalking, I would like to help you keep running and walking your whole life long also. I am so thankful to Katherine and Danny Dreyer and the other Certified ChiRunning/ChiWalking Instructors for sharing the gift of ChiRunning and ChiWalking with me.
