Recovery from Injury

« Go Back

I am 44 years old and never thought of myself as a runner. Whenever I
played basketball in high school, my legs were constantly hurting due to shin splints and I went through the process of taping my legs before every game and practice. This never really took away the pain, just made it a little easier to take. Last year a friend encouraged me to start running. I enjoyed it very much, but could never go very far because of the shin pain. After 7 months of trying to run, I was about to give up, I just wasn’t meant to be a runner. I was incredibly frustrated but I knew I could not live with ice bags on my legs every night. After reading the book, I set out on a run. On that day, I went from 2 miles to 5 miles, simply because there was no pain stopping me. I can’t begin to tell you how excited I was. I was afraid I would wake up the next day with the shin pain, but I didn’t! Two days later, I ran again! No pain!

Forever grateful,
Kathy Lawrence
