Rocked a Breast Cancer 3-Day with ChiWalking
Wow, what a weekend! Cindy and I went to San Antonio for a ChiWalking Workshop with Ken Runner, a ChiWalking/Running coach. We learned so much and he helped us to figure out what we needed to work on. The whole thing was lots of fun and really valuable to our whole goal of walking 60 miles in 3 days for the Breast Cancer 3-Day. He showed us what a difference it can make to use your core as you base when walking (or doing anything else). You hear all the time to “work on core muscles” and now Cindy and I know why. During one exercise he had us walk toward him, walking like we always do, and he was able to easily stop us with little effort on his part, but when we engaged our core he could not stop us without a lot of effort on his part, but for us it wasn’t strenuous at all!
While the concept is fairly simple, there are many things you must focus on to do this technique correctly. Once you understand the concept you work on one or two focuses when you take a walk. This lets you hone your skill for each component of the technique. It gives you a lot to think about.
