Rich O'Connor
Rich has been teaching movement and coaching athletes of all levels and abilities for over 20 years. After graduating from the University of Massachusetts, receiving a degree in Exercise Physiology, he became an assistant strength and conditioning coach for Boston University under head coach Mike Boyle. He also excelled as an amateur and professional martial artist competing in boxing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and mixed martial arts.
In 2003, Rich began the study of the Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis movement systems that he now teaches full time at his studio in Albuquerque, NM. It was through these systems that he was able to recover from his many athletic injuries and has even moved on to racing mountain bikes competitively.
Rich often used running as training for other sports, but eventually began to run for the sheer fun of it. Unfortunately, old injuries limited these runs to only a few miles at a time and new injuries seemed unavoidable. In 2009, he discovered ChiRunning and began running pain free after only a short time. This dramatic turn around inspired him to become a ChiRunning and ChiWalking instructor.
“The joy of teaching ChiRunning can be summed up in those moments when the students light up with joy and they realize how efficient and painless running is supposed to be!”
Rich is owner of Laughing Buddha Gyrotonic Studio. He is also the conditioning coach for the University of New Mexico Cycling Team and teaches mountain bike skills workshops.

Details:
In this workshop you will learn the basic ingredients of the Chi Running® Technique. You will get lots of personal attention and enjoy a rich learning experience packed with good information to help you run injury-free for the rest of your life.
Class Format:
The Chi Running Essentials workshop includes four hours of instruction in a single 1/2 day course. The class begins at 8:00am and will end at 12:00pm.
The workshop will be held indoors. The Instructor will be guiding you through many exercises and drills designed to leave you with a clear sense of what the Chi Running technique feels like in your body. We will not be doing lots of running (contrary to what you might imagine), so no matter what condition you are in, have no fear. We will spend time alternating between demonstrations, fun exercises and technique drills…the nature of the day will be relaxed, full and inspiring. There will be a small portion of the workshop held outside to be able to put together all that you have learned. So check the weather forecast and dress appropriately. Please bring snacks and water if needed.
