About Ellen
Ellen was a novice runner when she completed her first marathon in 1998 and has been hooked on running ever since. She has been a coach and member of San Jose Fit since 1999. "I love coaching and teaching. It is so rewarding to help someone achieve their fitness goals, whether it is to begin running for the first time or to complete a marathon." Becoming a Certified ChiRunning® Instructor was a perfect fit. "Teaching classes has been a lot of fun. My students can really feel the difference Chi Running makes right away."
Ellen has completed 10 marathons and numerous half marathons. Each race gives her a new challenge and a new opportunity to improve her running skills. "I've found that over the longer distances, ChiRunning® really makes a huge difference in performance. You can get away with inefficiency and still do pretty well in a 5K or 10K, but after 10 miles or so, those bad habits really take their toll."
Ellen completed her first triathlon race in 2007. "Chi Running is especially helpful for multi sport athletes. The run is the last phase of triathlon, after swimming and biking. To get off the bike and know that you will not be pounding your already tired legs is a great feeling."
Chi Walking
In Fall 2005 Ellen was Certified as a Chi Walking Instructor. “I am so excited about opportunity to bring mindful movement to the public. Many times over the past couple of years I have had people ask about walking because they are not runners and have no desire to be. Walking has become such a popular way for people to get out and get some great exercise.” Chi Walking is suitable for people of all ages, and all ability levels. It can be a great way to begin an exercise program for someone who may have been inactive.
