July 2016 Instructor of the Month: Angela James

ANGELA JAMES, MASTER INSTRUCTOR: VANCOUVER/WESTERN CANADA

“Tension is who you think you should be. Relaxation is who you are”   Ancient Chinese Proverb

A native of England, with a background in Nursing and Midwifery from St Mary’s Hospital, London, Angela immigrated to Canada in 1983. She owned and operated a furniture business, importing Antiques from the UK which she ran successfully for over 20 years. Her custom-built commissioned pieces have become collectible in the city of Vancouver.

Sports have always played a big part in Angela’s life, including tennis squash, cycling, swimming and or course long distance running and walking. In 1996 Angela expanded her fitness program to include marathon running. She has since completed twenty marathons including Boston in 2004. Angela is a traveler and loves nothing better than meeting people in all walks of live from around the globe.In 2003 she found a way to combine her love of traveling and running and her care-giving nature by joining Team In Training, a fund-raising program that raises research money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society by running marathons around the world.

Ed has been running for years—he loves it. He's done 10ks, half marathons, full marathons, runs on the beach, on hill trails, and anywhere else that he can get that runner's high. He's been teaching ChiRunning and ChiWalking for nearly 5 years, and just became a Master Instructor. For him, there is nothing like the end of a workshop when students leave knowing they have the tools to dramatically improve their energy efficiency and to reduce, even eliminate, injuries.

December 2015 Instructor of the Month: Alan Miller

Alan has been an avid runner since 1978. He has paticipated in almost 80 marathons, including 30 New York City Marathons. He was the first place finisher in his age group at the 2008 NY Marathon.
Alan has a doctorate degree in education and has been teaching adult learners for over thirty years. His background as an educator, counselor, and coach, combined with his enthusiasm for the topic, enables his classes to be enlightening and fun. Alan loves teaching and feels extremely fortunate to be able to share the benefits of ChiRunning and ChiWalking with others.

I hate running. I ran The Columbus Half Marathon because I knew that I could, not because I liked running. Actually, the thought hit me the day my dad crossed the finish line at his first half marathon. In my mind, he was the last person that I thought would run that far, and I thought that if he could do it, then I could, too.
